Yet, we do not have the official system requirements for GTA 6 because the PC version has not yet been announced, and the game is currently launching only on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game is built on the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE), which requires modern hardware to render AI-driven NPCs, detailed graphics, realistic physics, smooth animations, and even tiny details like the bubbles in a cold drink.
By analyzing the hardware specifications of the supported consoles, we have estimated the minimum and recommended GTA 6 system requirements. This should help you upgrade your PC in advance so you can run the game smoothly once it is released.
GTA 6 PC Requirements (Estimated)

| Component | Minimum | Recommended | Ultra / 4K |
|---|---|---|---|
| CPU | Intel Core i7-8700K / AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | Intel Core i9-12900K / AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D | Intel Core i9-13900K / AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D |
| GPU | Nvidia RTX 2070 / AMD RX 5700 XT | Nvidia RTX 3080 / AMD RX 6800 XT | Nvidia RTX 4090 / AMD RX 7900 XTX |
| VRAM | 8 GB | 12 GB | 16โ24 GB |
| RAM | 16 GB DDR4 | 32 GB DDR4 / DDR5 | 32โ64 GB DDR5 |
| Storage | SSD required ยท ~150 GB | NVMe SSD ยท ~200 GB | PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD ยท ~200 GB |
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
| DirectX | DX12 Ultimate | DX12 Ultimate | DX12 Ultimate |
| Resolution | 1080p | 1440p | 4K |
| Target frame rate | 30 fps | 60 fps | 60 fps |

The game’s actual download and installed size have not been confirmed. However, based on the file sizes of GTA 5 and RDR 2, it is expected to require around 150 GB of storage space. In the table above, we recommend 200 GB of free storage for the Recommended and Ultra system requirements to prevent your operating system from experiencing lag or disk caching issues.

How do we calculate these requirements?
Since Rockstar hasn’t published official system requirements, we worked backwards from what we do know.
GTA 6 is being built primarily for PS5 and Xbox Series X, both of which use AMD Zen 2 CPUs and RDNA 2 GPUs. We used those specs as a baseline and mapped them to their closest PC equivalents โ the RTX 2070 and RX 5700 XT sit roughly in the same performance territory as the PS5’s GPU in raw compute terms, which gave us the minimum GPU floor.
After that, we looked at how Rockstar’s previous ports were at launch. GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 both shipped with noticeably higher hardware demands than the console specs alone would suggest โ a pattern the PC gaming community refers to as the “port tax.” RDR2, in particular, was known to use 8โ14 GB of RAM under load and required a strong CPU to avoid bottlenecks in dense areas. We factored that history into every tier, bumping recommendations up by roughly one hardware generation above what pure console-equivalent math would give you.
For VRAM specifically, we referenced how similar open-world titles behaved at equivalent settings. RDR2 at 4K ultra textures pushed close to 9 GB of VRAM at launch. GTA 6’s asset density and map scale are higher, and enabling ray tracing further inflates VRAM usage โ which is why we set 16โ24 GB as the floor for the ultra tier.
When will GTA 6 release on PC?
Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date is set for Thursday, November 19, 2026, on consoles, but the PC version has not yet been announced. Based on Rockstar’s previous release patterns, there are strong indications that it will arrive at the end of 2027 or early 2028.
Here is how the previous titles were handled:
- Grand Theft Auto IV (7-month gap): Launched on consoles in April 2008, followed by the PC release in December 2008.
- Grand Theft Auto V (19-month gap): Launched on consoles in September 2013, followed by the PC release in April 2015.
- Red Dead Redemption 2 (12-month gap): Launched on consoles in October 2018, followed by the PC release in November 2019.
Conclusion
The official GTA 6 pre-orders are now open for consoles. The game is priced at $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. You can check the price in your country to see the local pricing, as the PC version is expected to be priced similarly.
