Release Date
Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, CEO Strauss Zelnick, have officially confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19, 2026. The countdown timer has started to track the days, hours, minutes, and seconds remaining until launch. You can pre-order the game from all major digital storefronts and selected physical retailers. Rockstar will initially release the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and they expect to launch the PC version later in 2027 or early 2028.
Why was the game delayed?
Rockstar Games delayed the launch twice. The first delay pushed the release from Fall 2025 to May 26, 2026. However, on November 6, 2025, the developer announced a second delay and pushed the game's release to November 19, 2026. Here is what they said:

We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.

In their announcement, first, RockStar apologized for the delay, then they said that the extra months were necessary to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has repeatedly emphasized the sheer scale of the project. In a 2026 interview, he admitted that the game was about 18 months behind their original internal targets, explaining that the prolonged development is because the team at Rockstar seeks to "do something that's never been done before. That's really hard, and it takes a long time."
